2019 KIA STINGER VS. 2019 AUDI A5 SPORTBACK

KBB recently compared the 2019 Kia Stinger to the Audi A5 Sportback, and favoured the Kia Stinger overall. Let’s see how well it stood against the Audi A5.<

Pricing: STINGER

The Kia Stinger GT-Line (base model) starts at $39,995. As you move up in trim, the GT starts at $44,995 and GT limited which is the highest trim available starts at $49,995. Compared to its competitor, the Audi A5 entry-level price starts at $49,200 which is almost $10,000 higher than the Stinger GT-Line.

Reliability: STINGER

All trim-levels of the Kia Stinger include Kia’simpressive 5-year / 100,000 KM worry-free comprehensive and limited powertrain warranty as well as a 5-year/ unlimited KM 24-hour roadside assistance.

The Audi A5 includes a 4-year / 80,000 KM warranty.

Fuel Economy: AUDI A5

Although the Audi A5 Sportback Technik (highest trim-level) won against the Stinger in fuel economy with 10.0 L/100KM City and 7.0 L/100KM Hwy, the difference is not so substantial. The Stinger GT-Line has a fuel economy of 11.1 L/100KM City and 8.1 L/100KM Hwy, while the GT and GT limited stands at 13.6 L/100KM City and 9.6 L/100KM Hwy.

Features: STINGER

Both vehicles come with impressive interior and exterior features that qualifies them as luxury sports cars.  Although the Kia Stinger base GT-Line model does not include some features such as Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™ smartphone integration, Brembo brakes, 360 camera monitoring system or heads up display, the comparable price of $39,995 start versus the Audi A5 Komfort $49,200 starting price, is hard to ignore.

When you upgrade to a higher trim level in the Kia Stinger, features included such as Harman Kardon premium audio speakers, wireless charging pad, Apple CarPlay and Android* Auto, UVO intelligence, heated AND cooled seats as well as heated back seats, heated steering wheel, power tailgate and impressive cargo space of up to 1158 L with the seats down, etc. you’re really getting your money’s worth with a price tag starting at $49,995 compared to the Audi A5 Technik’s starting price point of  $57,050.

Ride and handling: STINGER

The 2019 Kia Stinger and Audi A5 Sportback are both impressive and very sporty hatchbacks and each comes with a powerful 2.0L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine. However, the Kia Stinger has slightly more impressive performance with its 8-speed automatic transmission delivering 255 horsepower, sharp steering and excellent suspension versus the Audi A5 7-speed automatic transmission and 248 horsepower.

Safety: STINGER

With its autonomous emergency braking system (forward collision warning), available Brembo brakes*, advanced smart cruise control, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, blind-spot detection and heads up system, available 360 camera*, and advanced visibility-enhancing technologies for better nighttime driving and visibility in various conditions, it’s not a surprise that the Kia Stinger made it to the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, whereas its Audi competitor did not.

Overall, the Kia Stinger’s entry-level price and included unbeatable Kia warranty, sleek and modern look, and impressive performance has made itself a worthy competitor of its class and title of AJAC Award winner of “Canada’s 2019 Car of the Year”.
