What is Kia’s Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go?

The average Canadian spends more than an hour commuting to and from work every day. Over the course of a full year, this equals to roughly 275 hours or about 12 straight days spent commuting. With driving taking so much time out of your day, why not make that time less stressful and more enjoyable?

With this in mind, Kia has introduced the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system with Stop & Go. SCC works like a normal cruise control system but can also adjust speed and come to a complete stop by using a combination of sensors and a front-facing camera to determine the distance and speed of vehicles travelling ahead of you.

Once you are travelling at your desired speed and "set" SCC in place, the system will slow down and speed up to match traffic patterns in front of you. If the vehicle in front of you comes to a complete stop, your vehicle will likewise come to a complete stop. If the vehicle ahead resumes driving within 3 seconds of stopping the system will automatically start and resume following the ahead vehicle. It's important to note that if the vehicle remains at a complete stop for longer than 3 seconds you will need to reactivate the system by pressing the accelerator pedal or the “Resume +” button mounted on your steering wheel.

How does SCC with Stop & Go Work?

In order to activate the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system on your vehicle you will need to:

Turn on the vehicle and ensure the Cruise Control system is activated by pressing the “CRUISE” button located on the right side of your steering wheel.

A visual indicator will be displayed on your dashboard when the system is active.

Once you are travelling at your desired speed, press the “SET -” button to activate your cruise control.

The Smart Cruise Control setting can be adjusted by pressing the vehicle distance button which is located directly below the cruise control buttons. Using this button you can choose the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. *Activation of SCC will vary depending on your year and model.

Here is a helpful video of how to activate your Smart Cruise Control system.
