How to Apply for EV Charger Rebates in BC

The BC Government is working with BC Hydro and FortisBC to offer provincial rebates for the purchase and installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers at homes under the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program. Single-family homes, row homes, and duplexes can get up to 50% of the cost ($350) in rebates with the installation of a Level 2 (240 volt) charger, while Indigenous communities can get up to 75% in rebates per charging station. BC Hydro and FortisBC are also providing additional top-ups to increase savings. Read on to learn how to qualify, apply, and get the most value from your EV charging setup.

EV Charger Rebates Available in British Columbia
  • Single-Family Homes

    If you own a single-family home, row home, or duplex in BC and install a Level 2 charger, you may be eligible for up to a $350 rebate toward the charger and installation. A certificate of successful inspection is required if the charger is installed by someone who isn’t a licensed electrician.

  • Multi-Unit Building (MURB) Charger Rebates

    If you live in a condo, townhouse, or apartment building, there are rebates for:
    • Developing an EV Ready plan for a building
    • Infrastructure upgrades
    • Charger installation in shared parking areas
    Up to thousands in eligible incentives are available for building owners, property managers, and stratas, depending on the scope and number of chargers.
  • Indigenous Communities

    Single-family homes, condos, apartments and workplaces in Indigenous communities can apply for rebates up to 75 percent for each charging station.

Everything You Need To Know Before You Get Started

Owners of single-family homes can apply for a rebate for their EV charger. All work must be completed, and applications must be submitted within 90 days of the installation of the charging station.

Here is the list of eligible costs that you can use your rebates for:

  • Purchasing the charging station
  • Labour and construction costs for installation by a licensed electrician
  • Electrical and related permits
  • The electrical design required for the charging station

Charging stations that are eligible for the rebate must be:

  • Purchased, not leased
  • Approved for sale and use in Canada and include cUL, cETL, CSA, or cQPS certifications
  • A Level 2 charger, 208 volts or 240 volts, with a NACS J3400 or SAE J1772 standard plug head
  • New, not used or refurbished
  • A plug-in or hardwired charger model
  • A permanent installation
  • As of March 12, 2025, Tesla products are not eligible for any CleanBC rebates

How to Apply for an EV Charger Rebate
Step 1. Buy and Install an EV Charger

You can purchase a charger from Kia Victoria or add one to your Kia EV bill of sale at the time of purchase. You'll need the charger installed by a licensed electrician, or arrange for an electrical inspection by the appropriate authority.

Step 2. Gather your Required Documentation

If the charger was installed by a licensed electrician, you will need:

  • Charger invoice: The itemized receipt from your friendly Kia Victoria Parts and Service Department showing proof of payment, including the model number of your charger
  • Installation invoice: A copy of the invoice/receipt for the cost of the charger installation and itemized cost breakdown of activities.
  • Electrical Permit Number
  • Image of installed station

If the charger was installed by someone who is not a licensed electrician, you will need:

  • Charger invoice
  • Inspection invoice
  • Certificate of successful inspection
  • Image of installed EV station

If no electrical work was required, the applicant must provide:

  • Charger invoice displaying proof of payment
  • Image of installed charging station
Step 3: Apply for a Home Charger Rebate

BCHydro customers can apply for rebates on BCHydro’s website. A BC Hydro account number is required. FortisBC Electricity customers can apply for the incentives on FortisBC’s website with their account number.
