Powertrain 

 

Kia Niro EV

The Kia Niro EV relies solely on electricity as its power source. It’s powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and uses a Lithium Ion Polymer Battery. It produces 201 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. 

 

Kia Niro HEV 

The Kia Niro HEV utilizes both an engine and a supplementary electric motor, which activates in certain situations like driving at low speeds. It is powered by a 1.6 GDI 4-Cylinder Engine and has a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. It has a combined horsepower of 139 and a combined torque of 195 lb-ft.

 

Kia Niro PHEV 

The Kia Niro PHEV also utilizes an engine and an electric motor, but features a more powerful motor. Unlike the HEV, the PHEV can drive on electricity alone. The Niro PHEV features a 1.6 GDI 4-Cylinder Engine and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. It has a combined performance of 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. 

 

Performance 

 

Kia Niro EV

The EV has an electric driving range of an estimated 407km. Its combined energy consumption is 2.1Le / 100km. Level 1 charging takes just over 57 hours, Level 2 will take just over 6 hours at the minimum, and Level 3 (Fast Charge) can take as little as 45 minutes. 

 

Kia Niro HEV 

The HEV model has an estimated fuel consumption of 4.5L / 100km for the city and 4.4L / 100km for the highway. The electric part of the HEV powertrain is self charging and doesn’t require an external power source. 

 

Kia Niro PHEV 

The PHEV version has an estimated electric driving range of up to 55km. On its single tank of gas, it can travel an average of 835km. The SUV has a combined fuel economy of  2.1Le / 100km. It supports Level 1 and Level 2 charging (2 hours and 45 minutes).
