2020 Kia Sorento VS Rav4, CR-V and Escape
The struggles of finding the perfect family vehicle. Researching, scouting, and making sure it checks off everything, if not most requirements on the list. Does it have enough room for the kids? Where do we fit the stroller? Is there enough room for all the camping gear? What's the safety rating? How much does it cost and is it worth the amount? The list can be endless. So how do you decide?
Que, the Kia Sorento. First introduced in 2002, the Kia Sorento was designed to be your typical, entry-level sport utility vehicle. It received a revamping in 2007, where second-generation models received a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS. Fast-forward to the third generation upgrade and facelift, the Kia Sorento has been a top contender in the SUV market, sweeping multiple awards and recognition, including Highest Ranked Midsize SUV in Initial Quality by J.D. Power.
Let's take it a step further and compare it against other popular midsize SUVs on the market such as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape. We've listed a comparison of key features for each vehicle, or you can scroll past and take a closer look at our comparison chart.
Let's talk about ROOM.
Though it may be classified as a midsize SUV, space and capacity within this vehicle is nothing short of average. With an optional 7 seat capacity, not only does the Kia Sorento fit the entire family with room to grow, but everyone's luggage too. The maximum cargo volume in a 7 seat vehicle with second and third-row seats down is 2066L. No need to sacrifice space to fit your loved ones.
With rear seats down, the Honda CR-V has a maximum cargo volume of 2146L (80L more than the Sorento) taking into account that they are slightly wider than the Sorento. However, there would only be room for the driver and passenger with only a 5 seat capacity.
Also a 5 seat capacity vehicle, the RAV4 has a maximum cargo volume of 1977L with rear seats down, and the Ford Escape with a 1852L maximum cargo with rear seats down.
What lovely features they have.
As technology continues to advance, many brands now come loaded with standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity, rear-view camera, and blindspot detection in most of their trims. Although the Kia Sorento comes fully loaded with all of this and more, other contenders are fully equipped with special features and technology of their own.
It all comes down to what you and your family need most, and what works with your lifestyle.
But what about the warranty?
Kia still leads the market with an unbeatable warranty which includes 5 years / 100,000 KM bumper-to-bumper basic warranty and 5 years / Unlimited KM roadside assistance. Toyota or Honda offers a 3 year / 60,000 KM basic warranty and 3 years / Unlimited KM roadside, followed by Ford's 3 years / 60,000 KM basic and 5 years / 100,000 KM roadside.
All in all, amazing and extremely capable vehicles in their own way. It's no doubt that there will always be room to improve, but it's easy to say that Kia has deserved its position in the current SUV market.
