Check Fluids

Fluids are extremely important for the proper functioning of your vehicle’s engine and other components and should be checked regularly. Change engine oil and filter every 5,000 to 8,000 kilometres, and keep an eye on transmission fluid, coolant, and other fluids. Older vehicles might face leaks or have degraded parts, so it’s important to regularly check the vehicle's fluids to ensure it’s running smoothly.

Maintain Battery Health

A car’s battery is responsible for getting the engine started, powering features inside the cabin, and so much more. Components inside a battery degrade over time, making them unable to hold a charge. This is why it’s crucial to ensure a battery in an older vehicle is properly maintained. The terminal should be free of corrosion and charged regularly. Old batteries can also be replaced.

Inspect Belts and Hoses

There are several belts and hoses under a vehicle’s hood to ensure it’s running smoothly. The serpentine belt, for example, drives multiple devices like the alternator and water pump, while heater hoses carry coolant to the heater core. As time goes on, belts and hoses can crack and wear out, leading to an increased risk of problems. It’s crucial to have aging belts and hoses inspected and replaced.
