Importance of Regular Maintenance

One of the easiest ways drivers can save on fuel costs is by taking their Kia in for regular maintenance. Our factory-trained Kia technicians will do tune-ups, oil changes, and filter replacements, all of which are important for improved fuel economy. While you should schedule regular maintenance appointments, you certainly want to head in if you notice your vehicle’s fuel economy is worse than usual. Some signs pointing to this include:

  • Increased Gas Station Visits
  • Illuminated Check Engine Light
  • Underinflated Tires

Switching to Hybrids and EVs

Another way to save on fuel costs is to reduce the amount of fuel your vehicle needs, or eliminate it. This requires making the switch from a gas-powered vehicle to a Hybrid or a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). According to the Government of Canada, the cost of electricity per kilometre is much lower compared to gasoline.

Hybrids

There are different types of hybrid vehicles. These include Full Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FHEVs) and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). While both of these options require gas, they work alongside electric motors that allow consumption to drop compared to gas-only vehicles. The battery in an FHEV is charged by itself through regenerative braking. Comparatively, PHEVs require plugging into an external power source and offer an electric-only driving range.

Battery Electric Vehicle

BEVs are fully electric and remove the need to fuel up completely. Instead, these vehicles get their power from charging, either through an electric outlet at home or a public charging station.
