When it comes to picking the best tires for your vehicle, there are three types of tires you can choose from: summer, winter, and all-season. The option you choose depends on a number of factors, including the season you’re currently in. Kia Victoria has a wide selection of tires to match all your needs. Continue reading with the experts to learn more about the differences between summer, winter, and all-season tires and explore our available options.

Summer Tires

Like the name suggests, summer tires are the best option for hot weather. Made of a hard rubber compound that can withstand the heat, these tires are best for traction on dry and paved roads. Summer tires feature a wide and shallow tread pattern that allows for a larger patch of the tire to touch the road for excellent grip and a more responsive (and fast) ride.

Winter Tires

Winter tires are a must for driving through Canada’s winter seasons. These tires are made of a soft rubber compound that can stay flexible well past temperatures dipping below zero degrees. Unlike summer tires, winter tires feature a tread pattern with deep grooves. This allows the tires to grip the snow and offers shorter stopping distances than other types of tires. The Government of British Columbia requires drivers in the province to use winter tires between October 1 and March 31 on select highways.

All-Season Tires

All-season tires are the perfect in-between of summer and winter tires, but they likely can’t be used all year long. This is because all-season tires aren’t recommended for use in extreme temperatures, such as Canada’s freezing winter season. The grooves of all-season tires aren’t as deep as winter tires, which means they can’t handle snow and ice-covered roads as well. They’re made of a rubber composition that sits between summer and winter tires. If you’re using all-season tires, you should switch to winter tires when the temperature starts to consistently dip below 7 degrees.
