EV Rebates for British Columbians: Updated August 2024

The Province of BC and Government of Canada offer incentives for purchasing electric vehicles. These include tax credits and rebates that make buying an electric vehicle more affordable.
BC Rebates
Income eligibility
- If your income is less than $80,000, you’re eligible for a $2,000 rebate for plug-in hybrids with range less than 85km, and $4,000 for battery electric and long-range plug-in hybrids.
- If your income is $80,001 – $90,000, you’re eligible for a $1,000 rebate for plug-in hybrids with range less than 85km, and $2,000 for battery electric and long-range plug-in hybrids.
- If your income is $90,001 – $100,000, you’re eligible for a $500 rebate for plug-in hybrids with range less than 85km, and $1,000 for battery electric and long-range plug-in hybrids.
- If your income is over $100,000, you’re ineligible for rebates.
Manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) eligibility
- Two seaters, compact, mid-size and large cars, station wagons and SUVs must have an MSRP less than $50,000 to qualify.
- Mini-vans, small and standard pickup trucks and passenger vans must have an MSRP less than $70,000 to qualify.
Used Electric Vehicles
BC Provincial Sales Tax The BC Government is no longer charging PST on used electric vehicles, making EVs more affordable than ever. This new policy expires on February 22, 2027.
Federal Rebates
Federal Rebates Up to $5000 are available at the point of sale to Canadian individuals and businesses for the purchase or lease of a car or SUV. Generally speaking, rebates are $5000 federally for all 2024 battery electric vehicles and longer range plug-in Hybrids, and $2,500 for most other PHEV.
Manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) eligibility (Federal rebates)
- a passenger car, where the base model Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $55,000; plus higher-priced trims of these vehicles, up to a maximum MSRP of $65,000, will also be eligible for purchase incentives;
- or a station wagon, pickup truck (light truck), sport utility vehicle (SUV), minivan, van, or special purpose vehicle, where the base model Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $60,000; higher-priced trims of these vehicles, up to a maximum MSRP of $70,000, will also be eligible for purchase incentives.
