PROVINCIAL REBATES - British Columbia

Residents, businesses, non-profit organizations, and local government organizations are eligible to receive a provincial rebate of up to $4,000 when leasing or buying a new electric vehicle in BC.

For all the up-to-date information on provincial rebates in BC, head to Go Electric BC.

The rebates are as follows:

The BC Ministry of Energy and Mines established incentive amounts based on:

  • income
  • vehicle type / battery capacity

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs or EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) with an electric range of 85 km or greater are eligible for the full incentive amount up to $4,000. Plug-in hybrids with an electric range of less than 85 km are eligible for incentives up to $2,000.

However, you must qualify for these rebates based on your income at the time of application:

  • If your income is less than $80,000, you qualify for a $2000 rebate on a PHEV with less than 85 kms of range. Or, you qualify for a $4000 rebate on a battery electric vehicle or long-range PHEV.
  • If your income is $80,001-$90,000, you qualify for a $1000 rebate on a PHEV with less than 85 kms of range. Or, you qualify for a $2000 rebate on a battery electric vehicle or long-range PHEV.
  • If your income is $90,001-$100,000, you qualify for a $500 rebate on a PHEV with less than 85 kms of range. Or, you qualify for a $1000 rebate on a battery electric vehicle or long-range PHEV.
  • If your income is $100,001 and above, you do not qualify for a provincial rebate in BC.

Which vehicles qualify for the rebate?

Provincial rebates are also based on manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

For your purchase to qualify, your car (including two seaters, compacts, mid-sizes and large cars) must not exceed $55,000 MSRP.

For your purchase to qualify, your larger vehicle (including station wagons, mini-vans, SUVs, small and standard pickup trucks, and passenger vans) must not exceed $70,000 MSRP.

SCRAP-IT

The BC SCRAP-IT program offers incentives up to $6000 to use towards the cost of an EV or other low-carbon form of transportation when you scrap your existing gas-powered vehicle.

Details

Incentives range from $3000 for a used EV, up to $6000 for a new EV. Each January, participating dealerships like KIA Victoria are allocated a limited number of incentive packages for their customers. Unlike other rebates, the incentives apply to purchases of both new and used EVs.

Only a limited number of SCRAP-IT incentives are awarded each year. Once they're gone, they're gone. And then tend to go quickly.
