How to Apply for EV Charger Rebates in BC

Quick Summary

BC residents may be eligible for up to $350 in rebates toward the cost of a home EV charger through the CleanBC Go Electric program. Installing an approved Level 2 charger at your home or strata property can qualify you for funding—plus additional incentives may be available through local municipalities or utility providers.

The BC Government is working with BC Hydro and FortisBC to offer provincial rebates for the purchase and installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers under the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program.

Single-family homes can get up to 50% of purchase and installation costs of eligible, new, Level-2 charging equipment, to a maximum of $350 per approved charging station. Plus, for a limited time, BC Hydro is also providing a time-limited top-up to the provincial program. That’s up to $700 in rebates!

You can select to receive your rebate as a credit against your BC Hydro or Fortis BC utility bill, or as a separate rebate cheque.Read on to learn how to qualify, apply, and get the most value from your EV charging setup.

So how does it all work?

Here’s everything you need to know:

Owners of single-family homes, including duplexes and townhouses with private garages, or dedicated parking, can apply for a rebate for their EV charger. All work must be completed, and applications submitted within 90 days after the installation of the charging station.

Here is the list of eligible costs that you can use your rebates against:

  • Purchasing the charging station
  • Labour and construction costs for installation by a licensed electrician
  • Electrical and related permits
  • The electrical design required for the charging station

But wait, there’s the fine print. Charging stations that are eligible for the rebate must be:

  • Purchased, not leased
  • Approved for sale and use in Canada and have cUL, cETL, and CSA certifications
  • A Level 2 charger, 208 volts or 240 volts, with a J1772 standard "J plug" (exception: TeslaWall Connector charger)
  • New, not used or refurbished
  • A permanent installation; plug-in chargers are permitted if there is an existing 240-volt outlet available
  • As of March 12, 2025, Tesla products are not eligible for any CleanBC rebates.

Step 1. Buy and Install an EV Charger

Purchase a charger from Kia Victoria here. You can also just add one on to your Kia EV bill of sale at the time of purchase. You'll need the charger installed by a licensed electrician, or arrange for an electrical inspection by the appropriate authority (your local municipality can help with this).

Step 2. Gather your Required Documentation

If the charger was installed by a licensed electrician, you will need:

  • Charger invoice - The itemized receipt from your friendly Kia Victoria Parts and Service Department, which includes the model number of your charge, plus the retailer's name, address and phone number.
  • Installation invoice - A copy of the (paid) invoice/receipt for the cost of the charger installation charged to you by your licensed electrician
  • Contractor installation form - Your electrician will provide this document. It is the official CleanBC EV Charger Rebate Form that has been completed and signed by your electrical contractor.

If the charger was installed by someone who is not a licensed electrician, the applicant must provide:

  • Charger invoice - The itemized receipt from your friendly Kia Victoria Parts andService Department, which includes the model number of your charge, plus the retailer's name, address and phone number.
  • Inspection invoice - A copy of the paid receipt/invoice for the cost of the electrical inspection by the appropriate authority: your municipality or Technical Safety BC.
  • Certificate of successful inspection - A copy of the electrical inspection certificate issued by the appropriate authority: your municipality or Technical Safety BC.
