The annual J.D Power Initial Quality Study for 2022 was recently published and Kia has been honored as one of the top brands.

This study surveys thousands of owners across the country in the first 90 days of ownership of their new vehicles. It measures how many problems on average vehicle owners have.

Winners

The Kia Forte has been a mainstay of the compact car segment, winning this initial quality award for the 4th straight year in a row. On top of this, five other Kia models – Carnival, K5, Rio, Sportage, and Telluride – each took the number two spot in their respective categories.

“With so many Kia models ranking first or second in their respective segments, there’s no doubt that quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail are an integral part of every vehicle Kia builds – no matter the segment,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America.

How Does J.D. Power Measure Initial Quality?

The 2022 Initial Quality Study, now in its 36th year, is based on responses from 84,165 purchasers and lessees of new 2022 model-year vehicles who were surveyed early in the ownership period.

Initial quality is measured by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality.

The study is based on a 223-question battery organized into nine vehicle categories (infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate) designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement. The study was fielded from February through May 2022.
