Kia Rear Cross Traffic Alert & Collision-Avoidance Assist
KIA Safety Tech: What is RCTA & RCCA?
Kia’s suite of safety features is designed to assist in keeping drivers safe. Among these is the Kia Rear Cross Traffic Alert & Collision-Avoidance Assist system offered on new Kia models.
The RCTA uses sensors in the rear bumper and a rearview camera. This gives the driver a better view and understanding of what's behind when backing out of a parking spot. The sensors alert the driver of oncoming traffic to the left or right of the vehicle before they are able to see it (due to parked cars beside your vehicle). If the system detects a vehicle rapidly approaching, a warning chime will sound illuminating an icon on both side mirrors and notifying the driver that a collision may be imminent. This system has an active feature called RCCA, which brakes to avoid a collision if the driver does not correct course.
