What is HAC?

When driving on some of the steep streets in Victoria, driveways or ferry ramps your vehicle has a tendency to roll back after coming to a complete stop. While this is worse on a manual transmission, it affects both automatic and manual vehicles alike. This anxiety-inducing part of everyday driving can be completely eliminated with Kia’s Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). HAC works by preventing your vehicle from rolling backwards when on a steep incline by applying the brakes automatically for about 2 seconds. How does Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) work?

In order to active the Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) you need to:

 

Completely stop your Kia on an incline like a hill or steep street. 

 

Continue to hold the brake pedal down as you remain stopped. 

Move your foot from the brake pedal to the gas pedal. While you are moving your foot, Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) will engage the brake for up to 2 seconds so you will not roll back, even on steeper inclines.
